Indore EV road trips

A practical checklist for the first highway day in an Indian EV: start SOC, backups, Wh/km, and how to use EV Grids so stop spacing matches your pack.

Fast chargers on NH corridors are still scarce compared to petrol pumps. A few habits keep trips smooth for you and the next driver.

NH44 is India’s longest national highway — Delhi through Hyderabad to Kanyakumari. Most EV owners hit NH44 on legs like Delhi–Agra, Nagpur–Hyderabad, or Hyderabad–Bangalore. Here is how to plan it without range anxiety.

Every long-trip EV owner eventually finds a charger that is offline, occupied, or not the connector they expected. EV Grids is built around backups and chain checks — here is the playbook when Plan A fails.

Northeast routes have thinner DC coverage than NH48 or the Deccan. Treat Kolkata → Guwahati as a two-day leg, use Siliguri as a hub, and always keep backup chargers selected.

Kashmir routes are among the hardest in India for EVs. Plan two days Delhi → Srinagar via Jammu, confirm every DC stop manually, and never treat brochure range as gospel on mountain climbs.

Uttar Pradesh routes are mostly flat with improving expressway DC. The Delhi–Lucknow–Varanasi triangle is a good second trip after a shorter Golden Triangle shakedown.

Indore sits on NH52 with spokes to Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and Bhopal. MP charger density is lower than Maharashtra or Gujarat — plan backups on every leg.

North India has two dense highway belts: NH48 (Jaipur, Ahmedabad) and NH44 (Chandigarh, Amritsar, Lucknow). Pick the corridor that matches your destination — do not assume one highway serves all.

The Salem–Krishnagiri–Coimbatore belt is where many South India EV trips succeed or fail. Elevation and truck traffic affect consumption even when distance looks modest on paper.

Delhi–Chandigarh is a major commute corridor in the EV Grids route directory. Here is how to pick a preset and plan DC stops for it — whether you drive it daily or weekly.

This page documents how EV Grids turns origin, destination, and a vehicle preset into ranked charging stops — the actual discovery, scoring weights, SOC walk, backups, and chain checks in the product, not a marketing diagram.

Hyderabad → Goa is the South India trip people want and the one that punishes brochure range. You cross long Maharashtra country and then ghats. This is a working plan, not a beach caption.

Bangalore → Chennai is two EV hub cities and a corridor people treat as easy. It is easy until Saturday noon at a single-gun plaza. Here is how to plan it like a commuter, not like a brochure.

Delhi → Mumbai is about 1,400 km. That is not a one-screen SOC puzzle in a mass-market EV. It is a two- or three-day itinerary with hotel AC and highway DC. Plan it that way.

The cheapest, calmest energy on a long EV trip is often the hotel socket you sleep next to — if it exists and is not a 5A fantasy. Here is how to mix overnight AC with highway DC.

A family EV trip is a logistics problem with snacks. You want chargers with toilets and food, not the theoretically optimal kW in a dusty lot. EV Grids amenity and lodging signals exist for this.

Maximizing Tata Nexon EV highway range is mostly honest Wh/km, a 90–100 km/h cruise, and DC stops that leave around 80% — not brochure kilometres. Punch, Curvv, Harrier, and Sierra follow the same physics with different packs; they do not share a stop list.

Born Electric packs and the XUV400 do not drive like a small hatch. Higher acceptance kW can shrink dwell time — if the station can deliver, and if you still arrive with reserve.

The planner is only useful if you know what the card is claiming. This is the field-by-field guide so you do not treat a heuristic as a reservation.

Trip mode changes how chargers are scored. It does not add kWh to the pack. Pick a mode that matches the day you are having.

People plan Hyderabad → Vizag carefully and then improvise the return at 6 p.m. with 40% SOC and a tired family. Round-trip mode exists because the energy story changed.

Golden Triangle and Rajasthan loops are popular, hot, and plaza-served. They are excellent second trips after a short NCR hop — if you respect afternoon heat and weekend guns.

Connector confusion wastes hours. Highway moving is CCS2 DC for almost every recent Indian EV. Type 2 AC is overnight or a long lunch. Mixing them up is how a ‘charging stop’ becomes a three-hour mall nap.

Hyderabad drivers have three classic first long drives. They are not equal exams. Pick the one that matches your car and your patience.

A 500 km day is the most common first “real” EV highway trip in India — long enough to need DC, short enough that a 45–60 kWh pack can still do it with one or two stops if you start full.

A 1,000 km EV trip is two energy days, not one heroic SOC walk. The planner can still produce a stop list, but you should decide where you will sleep and which stop is allowed to be a hotel-adjacent charger.

Advertised range is not measured at NH44 cruising speed. EV Grids does not invent a km/h table for your car. It uses the Wh/km you (or the preset) provide. Speed is one of the reasons that number should be higher than the brochure implies.

Choosing a DC stop on a highway is not “pick the biggest kW on the map.” EV Grids scores candidates against the driving path. Higher power helps, especially in Fastest mode, but detour, connectors, and whether the site is even operational usually matter more.

EV Grids estimates electricity cost as energy you add at public DC times an indicative ₹/kWh, plus any configured session fee. It is a planning aid, not an invoice from Tata Power or Statiq.

Real-world highway range is not a second ARAI number. It is usable energy divided by your highway Wh/km, minus the reserve you refuse to spend. EV Grids will not fabricate a test-loop figure for your car.

Preparation is boring on purpose. The planner can rank chargers. It cannot charge your 12V, log you into Statiq, or pack the CCS2 cable you still need at a hotel.
