Hyderabad to Goa by EV — ghat, NH65/NH66, and charging plan

Hyderabad → Goa is the South India trip people want and the one that punishes brochure range. You cross long Maharashtra country and then ghats. This is a working plan, not a beach caption.

Distance and why it feels longer

The corridor is about 640 km. On a map that looks like a long but normal Saturday. In an EV it is an elevation-and-weather problem after the plains. Charge as if the last 120 km will cost extra energy, because they often will.

Use the Hyderabad → Goa corridor page Plan now button with hills & weather on. Set reserve to 25–30% in monsoon. Start at 90% SOC from Hyderabad — leaving at 70% is how this trip grows a third stop.

Where the plan usually breaks

The Kolhapur–Belgaum belt is where people skip a charge because they ‘feel fine’ and then meet a ghat. Charge there even if the card says you could theoretically continue. The far side of a climb is a bad place to learn that a listing was stale.

Goa destination charging is better than it was, but weekend beach traffic is not a charger strategy. Arrive with buffer; hotel AC overnight is the right end-state for a Sunday return.

Vehicle classes

40 kWh-class cars: plan two DC sessions and do not play hero. 50–60 kWh: one long halt plus a ghat-side top-up is common. 70 kWh+ SUVs can look like one-stop trips on a cool day and still want a backup before the hills.

Pick the exact preset (Nexon 45 vs older, Harrier 65 vs 75). Connector filters matter less than efficiency honesty on this road.

Return leg

The return is not a copy-paste. You may leave Goa lower than you left Hyderabad. Round-trip planning on EV Grids builds both directions — use it. Recalibrate Wh/km after day one.

Sample energy picture

At 170 Wh/km, 640 km is about 109 kWh of road energy — more than a 45 kWh pack holds, so you will buy highway DC even if you started at 90%. A 75 kWh SUV with 20% reserve has more room but still owes the ghat a buffer charge. Type your number, do not borrow a YouTube itinerary from a different pack.

Monsoon adds time. Time with AC on adds kWh. If the seasonal alert is showing, believe it.
