Delhi to Srinagar by EV — Kashmir valley planning

Kashmir routes are among the hardest in India for EVs. Plan two days Delhi → Srinagar via Jammu, confirm every DC stop manually, and never treat brochure range as gospel on mountain climbs.

Delhi → Jammu → Srinagar

Delhi → Srinagar in one day is only for experienced drivers with multiple fast-charge windows. Most owners overnight in Jammu and top up before the Banihal–Qazigund climb.

Jammu → Srinagar often needs 0–1 DC from a full charge, but Pir Panjal elevation can consume 30–50% more Wh/km than plains driving.

Before Ladakh extensions

Srinagar → Leh is extreme — verify every stop along the route outside EV Grids before attempting. Treat admin advisories and red badges seriously.

Winter closures and snow affect both traffic and charger access — check road status before you leave Jammu.

Jammu is the overnight

Delhi to Srinagar in one push is an experienced-driver stunt. Overnight in Jammu, 90%+ in the morning, then the climb. Pir Panjal will not honour your ARAI sticker.

Check highway status, weather, and any local restrictions the morning you leave Jammu. A planner cannot see a closed tunnel.

Ladakh is a different sport

Srinagar–Leh and Manali–Leh are not ‘corridors with fewer chargers’. They are high-altitude trips with seasonal roads. If you need this page to decide whether to go, you should not go without a support plan outside EV Grids.

Altitude, cold and closures

Cold reduces both usable capacity and charging speed, and a cold pack may accept noticeably less power until it warms. Sustained climbing adds energy cost that the descent only partly returns. Plan the mountain sections with more reserve than a plains equivalent.

Road closures are the dominant planning risk on approaches to the valley. Confirm status near departure and keep the itinerary flexible enough that a closure changes your day rather than ruining it.

Where to put the charging margin

Charge before the climb, not during it. Arrive at the base of a long ascent with more than the calculation strictly requires, because hill-town charging is sparser, slower and more likely to be occupied than anything on the plains.

Precondition the cabin while still connected where the car supports it, so departure energy goes into driving rather than heating. On cold mornings this is one of the few genuinely free improvements available.
