How to plan a 1,000 km EV road trip

A 1,000 km EV trip is two energy days, not one heroic SOC walk. The planner can still produce a stop list, but you should decide where you will sleep and which stop is allowed to be a hotel-adjacent charger.

Treat it as two legs

1,000 km at highway Wh/km is more energy than most Indian EV packs hold twice over. You will charge more than twice. Overnight mode on EV Grids biases ranking toward lodging-adjacent sites when you will sleep on the road; it does not book a room or guarantee a charger in the parking lot.

Use a corridor page that is actually that long (for example Delhi → Mumbai or Hyderabad → Goa plus a second day), or split the plan into two origin–destination pairs so each day has its own backups. Cached long routes may be chunked in the API so discovery stays fast — that is an implementation detail, not a promise that every chunk has dense DC.

Chain checks matter more

On a two-stop 400 km day, a bad backup is annoying. On a 1,000 km chain, swapping a cheap far-away gun at stop 2 can make stop 4 unreachable. That is why EV Grids re-validates later legs when you change a charger. If the UI offers a chain fix, take it.

Keep reserve at 20% or higher. Raise search threshold in monsoon and ghats. Do not start the second morning at 40% because the hotel charger failed — that is how 1,000 km days become 1,200 km days.

Cost and time are estimates

Indicative ₹/kWh and session totals on stop cards are planning aids. Public DC tariffs change. The trip cost calculator is for one-leg math; a 1,000 km tour is several sessions plus the cheap home charge you used last night.
