Overnight EV charging on Indian road trips

The cheapest, calmest energy on a long EV trip is often the hotel socket you sleep next to — if it exists and is not a 5A fantasy. Here is how to mix overnight AC with highway DC.

DC is for distance; AC is for mornings

Highway CCS2 exists so you can move. Overnight AC exists so you start the next day at 90% without occupying a scarce gun at 11 p.m. EV Grids overnight mode biases toward lodging-adjacent sites when you will sleep on the road. It cannot book the hotel or the socket.

Call the property. ‘EV charging’ on a listing may mean a 15A in a distant parking lot, a destination charger, or a hope. Ask connector, kW, and whether it is reserved for guests.

When to skip the last DC

If you will arrive at a verified hotel charger with 25%+ SOC and eight hours, you may not need a 100% plaza session 30 km out. If the hotel is a rumour, charge on the highway first. Ambiguity is a DC problem, not an AC problem.

Safety and courtesy

Do not run cables across a driveway as a trip hazard. Do not unplug someone else to ‘just top up’. If the hotel has one destination charger, treat it like a scarce DC gun: take what you need for the morning, not a 100% ego charge if others are waiting.

Corridor pages with hotels

Some EV Grids corridor URLs include a hotels view for overnight ideas. Still verify. Then plan the morning leg as a new SOC story — you are not still on yesterday’s chart.

What EV Grids can see

Lodging-nearby ranking is a hint from maps data, not a booking. Corridor hotel subpages are ideas. If the property cannot describe the charger in one sentence (connector, whether guests may use it, overnight), assume you need highway DC first.
