How to choose a DC fast charger

Choosing a DC stop on a highway is not “pick the biggest kW on the map.” EV Grids scores candidates against the driving path. Higher power helps, especially in Fastest mode, but detour, connectors, and whether the site is even operational usually matter more.

What the score is made of

Live weights: detour 0.30, power 0.25, ratings 0.20, operational status 0.10, amenities 0.10, reliability prior 0.05. Prefer lower-cost adds estimated ₹/kWh (0.12). Overnight can add lodging-nearby (0.10). Busy reports subtract 0.12 when we have that signal.

A 240 kW charger 12 km into town can lose to a 60 kW plaza gun 400 m off the NH. Listed kW is a station ceiling, not a contract with your battery. Peak kW falls as SOC rises; a “faster” gun may still be a longer stop if you charge 20→80% in heat.

Connectors and verification

Match the inlet on your preset (CCS2 on almost every recent Indian highway EV). Type 2 AC is a different job. If the listing is thin, do not assume four working CCS2 guns.
